Designs of the 1981 Series - The Transportation Coils

Printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), unless noted otherwise. All of these stamps are coil stamps. The Series has given rise to a very popular new area of collecting, namely PNC or plate number coil collecting. The Transportation Series are collected as singles or the traditional coil pair; as plate number singles or strips of three or five; five being the preferred method of collecting with the plate number centered. They are also sometimes collected in strips of seven to show precancel gaps to the right of the plate number. Please note that the "Image Size:" listed on this page refers to the size listed by the U.S. Postal Service on their respective Souvenir Pages.
